Redland City Council : Request Management Implementation  
OVERVIEW:  

Redland Council faced a challenge integrating their new SAAS request management system with an old On-Prem CI system, requiring backward compatibility. Despite months of attempts by multiple consultants, the issue remained unsolved. However, after engaging our services in July 2024, the team successfully solved the problem in just three days and developed a working prototype. The solution was well received by the project manager, business analysts, and the business unit, who appreciated the innovative approach and effort put into resolving the issue. 

CHALLENGES:

SAAS system needed backward compatibility with the On-Prem  system,  causing double data entry. Possibility for errors to creep in and wasted effort. It as required that the CiA version would push information back to Ci.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Developed an innovative approach, solving the issue in just 3 days; Using standard functions like ETL, server  folders, data imports and devised a way to push information to the Ci Version. 

ISAAC Regional Council : Mobility - Entering Work data using Tablet

OVERVIEW : 

In 2017, the ISAAC Council faced a major challenge, their TechnologyOne system required network  staff coverage,  making it unusable in remote locations where outdoor staff worked. The only offline alternative was a  bulky 2kg Toughbook laptop, which was impractical for labor-intensive tasks like road construction and   maintenance. To solve this, we proposed developing a bespoke Android app that could integrate with the TechnologyOne system and run on   lightweight Samsung tablets or smartphones. The council approved the plan, and we collaborated with an offshore company to develop the app. Within six weeks, the first draft was completed,  followed by three months of testing  and implementationThe solution was a success and remained  in use for eight years, significantly improving efficiency for  outdoor staff

REQUIRMENTS :

The solution must enable offline data entry and automatic sync with TechnologyOne when  online. It should be mobile-friendly, working on lightweight, rugged devices like tablets or smartphones, with a user-friendly interface and secure data storage. Integration with TechnologyOne Ci On-Prem or SAAS is essential. Devices must have long battery life and support GPS and camera functions if needed. The system should allow hands-free operation, ensuring quick and efficient data entry for field workers. Lastly, it should be scalable for future upgrades and expansion.

CHALLENGES :

TechnologyOne lacked mobile tablet support and required internet access, making it unusable in remote areas. ISAAC Council’s on-premise system further limited remote work. Workers had to carry a heavy Toughbook laptop, which was impractical for hands-free labor. The CEO demanded mobility, but the software couldn’t function offline, making it ineffective.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

The successful implementation of the bespoke Android app significantly improved the council’s operational efficiency, enabling seamless mobile access to the TechnologyOne system. By replacing outdated and impractical solutions, the new system enhanced productivity, reduced manual workload, and ensuring long term usability. The fact that the council continued using this solution for eight years highlights its effectiveness, scalability, and long-term impact in transforming field operations.
